Beyond the Books is a short-term internship program that is a blending of both academic learning and service. Students are placed with a business of non-profit organization so they may explore a career, serve the needs of our community and apply the skills they are learning in school to real-life situations. The course consists or preparation classes, service hours at a site, journaling and evaluation.
This course is offered at Central and Stevens High Schools and the Rapid City Academy.

Career Launch Programs, Educational institutes and the Rapid City industry are partnering with Rapid City Area Schools to provide a fast start glimpse at a career choice for Learn & Serve students. Instead of sitting with a textbook in a high school classroom, students are gaining "hands-on" experience in business, industry, college and technical classes in Rapid City.

Students enrolled in the Rapid City Area Schools Learn & Serve program, at all three high schools, will have the opportunity to participate special career programs hosted by local higher education and industry leaders.
